Chequered skipper reserve, Loch Arkaig

Butterfly Conservation (Scotland), Forestry Commission Scotland

Project Description

Butterfly Conservation (Scotland) inpartnership with Forestry Commission Scotland set up the first Butterfly Reserve in Scotland to help protect and enhance the habitat supporting the locally present pearl-bordered fritillary and the chequered skipper at Allt a’Mhuic by Loch Arkaig.

The partners also worked to raise awareness of the management requirements of these important species with neighbouring land owners and managers, in a small project funded by the Highland Biodiversity Project.
