Local Biodiversity Action Plans

Local Biodiversity Action Plans (LBAPs) were produced for seven of the Highland Council's eight administrative areas in 2002 - 2004. They can be viewed by clicking on the links or the cover images below.

Local Biodiversity Groups were set up to draft the LBAPs and distribute funding for local projects as part of a two year project funded by the European Union, Highland Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, Highlands & Islands Enterprise and RSPB Scotland. Ten years later, the Groups are still working to oversee the delivery of their LBAPs, with some additional funding through various projects and a lot of volunteer effort. Unfortunately, a funding bid submitted in 2011 to update the Highland LBAPs was unsuccessful, and although some Groups are looking at how they can update their LBAPs, the Plans below remain the most up-to-date LBAPs for their areas.

The Cairngorms Partnership produced an LBAP for the Cairngorms area (which includes Badenoch and Strathspey, the 8th of Highland Council's administrative areas), and the Cairngorms National Park Authority is currently updating this Plan.
