Primary schools biodiversity competitions
All primary schools in Caithness were invited to take part in a biodiversity themed competition each year for three years. The type of competitions considered included 1) recording wildlife in the school grounds and compiling a scrap book that includes drawings and species lists. 2) poster and poem competitions that promote the wildlife of Caithness. 3) Projects based on a particular wildlife habitat and/or species that is appropriate to the location of the school e.g. seaside animals and plants, woodland animals. Each year the winners were given a biodiversity related tour.
Dec 07: Equipment & id. books bought.
Jul 08: 6 schools entered comp, Crossroads Primary won with play & model, winners went on wildlife cruise.
Jul 09: > 350 entries from 6 schools, teatowel featuring winning drawings produced.
May 10: Writing competition run but no publication due to lack of entries. Project complete.
